Road trip Montenegro – too bad for the beach holiday

Podgorica – Experience the country’s lifestyle
In Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, the journey begins. At the airport, you can pick up your hire car. Podgorica, rebuilt after the Second World War, has no world-renowned sights to offer. Nevertheless, you should spend a few hours in the city, strolling through the streets or sitting down in a café. Here you can observe Montenegrin life in its purest form.
Ostrog – the spectacular monastery complex

The journey then continues to Ostrog Monastery, which is spectacularly built into the side of a mountain. There are 200 metres of altitude to climb if you want to get from the lower part of the complex to the very top.
The monastery’s various small churches and chapels give a good insight into the architectural styles of the Serbian Orthodox Church. However, for all the grandeur of the complex, don’t miss out on enjoying the beautiful views.
Komarnica – The Wild Canyon

A wild gorge is next to be discovered. Kanjon Komarnica is on average 35 meters deep and can be hiked. You walk through a very narrow gorge, which is framed by steep rock walls. A real highlight for nature lovers. But you have to be cold-resistant. The mountain stream that flows through the gorge and must be hiked through will quickly turn your feet blue.
Onto the mountains

Further into the mountains the tour goes. Zabljak lies at an altitude of 1,455 metres above sea level. The tranquil little town is appreciated as a winter sports resort in the cold season. In summer, you can go hiking or rafting.
Return south

You reach Pluzine via a narrow mountain road. The small town is hardly worth a longer visit, but from here the road heads south again.
Cetinje – model image of late classicism

Cetinje, the next stop on your road trip, on the other hand, is a worthwhile destination. In the second half of the 19th century, many European countries had their legations here. This is also reflected in the townscape. The architectural style of late classicism can be studied excellently in this place. A visit to the monastery of Cetinje is also well worthwhile.
Petrovac – The sea beckons

But now it’s time to conquer the coast. Petrovac is the name of the final stop on the road trip.
In this typical Mediterranean town you can unwind, wander through the picturesque alleys, enjoy a fresh fish in one of the restaurants and plan the next stops of your road trip at your leisure.
