La Gomera – Green Pearl in the Ocean

San Sebastián – Lively Island Capital

Start your road trip on the island of La Gomera in San Sebastián, the island’s capital. Only about 4,500 people live in the city.

But if you add the surrounding area, you get about 8,800 people. That’s a third of the island’s total population.

Lively and multifaceted, the city presents itself. Calle Real is where the tour begins. Here you can go shopping to your heart’s content. Many boutiques and small shops vie for the favour of the customers.

The Calle de Real is a pedestrian zone, so you can admire the magnificent facades of the houses at your leisure. Many of them were built as early as the 18th century. Also in the Calle Real you will find the Iglesia de la Asunción. It is the most important church on the island. Note the main portal, which dates back to the early 16th century.

The exterior arch is modeled after intricate ship piles. The nave is also impressive, with its carved wooden ceilings. Your next destination could be the Archaeological Museum. Here you can learn a lot about the island’s indigenous people. A stroll to the harbour rounds off the city tour.

Watch fishermen and boat owners at work and enjoy a drink in a cosy café. If you want to stay in San Sebastián, you could choose the Hotel Parador Nacional Conde de la Gomera.

This magnificent establishment only opened in 1973, but the building is modelled on an old Canarian estate and offers a special ambience. Lovers of Canarian cuisine will also find what they are looking for in San Sebastián. At Quatro Caminos you dine in an old town house. The atmosphere is cosy and the dishes are of the best quality.

El Cedro – Into the Jungle

The next stop on your road trip is El Cedro. You need about half an hour by car and you are already in the Canarian jungle.

El Cedro is located on the northern edge of the Parque Nacional de Garajonay. Explore the laurel and heather forests on long walks.

It’s not for nothing that the national park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. But the town of El Cedro itself is also exceedingly picturesque and well worth the visit.

Hermigua – Discover the past

We continue to Hermigua, a beautiful place in lush nature. Here, the manor house Los Telares is particularly worthwhile. The house from the 18th

century house has been lovingly restored. On the ground floor, you can watch artisans at work.

You’ll also find a museum here, where historical utensils give an insight into how life used to be on La Gomera.

Agulo – coastal village with charm

Agulo is the end point of today’s tour. The picturesque town attracts with narrow streets lined with beautifully decorated old houses.

Two beaches invite you to sunbathe. You should rather not go into the sea.

Around Agulo there are dangerous currents that can quickly be the undoing of even good swimmers.

For the physical well-being is provided in Agulo. Visit the restaurant La Vieja Escuela. Especially the goat dishes, but also the various fish specialties, are deliciously prepared.

In the evening you should check in at the Hotel Los Helechos. The rooms are simple, but comfortable. The hotel is located in an old townhouse and has a historic flair. Here you can sit on the roof terrace for a while, enjoy the fantastic view and plan the next stops of your road trip on La Gomera.
