Formentera – Holiday for individualists

La Savina – Lively harbour town
Start your tour of Formentera in La Savina. Every visitor to the island knows this place, as this is where all the ferries dock. Sit down in one of the harbour bars and watch the hustle and bustle of the yacht owners who take care of their ships and their image here. Perhaps you will take an excursion with the Barca Bahia. She sails to the small, uninhabited island of Espalmador. Here you can relax on the beautiful beach or take a bath in the sulphurous mud lagoon. In the harbour you will find out the current departure times.
Es Pujols – Here beats the tourist heart

The journey continues to Es Pujols, the island’s tourist hotspot. Here you can go shopping to your heart’s content on the beach promenade or enjoy a cool drink in one of the bars. There is also no shortage of good restaurants. We recommend the restaurant Capri, where excellent fish dishes are served on a beautiful terrace. Es Pujols also has pleasant hotels to offer. The Rocabella, for example, is a good address. The rooms are simple and clean and the sea views are stunning.
The capital Sant Francesc Xavier

The next morning, the journey continues to the island’s capital. However, this designation is a bit of an exaggeration, as Sant Francesc Xavier is home to just over 1,200 people. Visit the Església Sant Francesc Xavier. The church was built in 1726.
For centuries, it served as a shelter for the inhabitants during pirate raids. That is why the facade is almost windowless. Inside the church there is a cistern. This provided the people with drinking water even during a prolonged siege. Cannons were placed under the roof to be able to put attackers to flight. After visiting the church, you can stroll to the small chapel of Sa Tanca Vello. It dates from the 14th century and is tiny compared to the Església Sant Francesc Xavier.
Cala Saona – Dream beach to fall in love

Today’s road trip ends at Cala Saona. Here you will find a fine sandy beach that invites you to sunbathe. The sea slopes gently, the water is crystal clear and the bay is relatively sheltered from the wind. Snorkelers will have fun here.
There is also a good hotel on the beach. The Cala Saona impresses with its fantastic location. The rooms are modern and tastefully decorated, and many offer stunning views over the bay. Enjoy the sunset with a nice drink on the terrace and plan the next stops of your road trip on Formentera in peace.
