Traffic rules Spain

General:
Spain has an excellent road network with two types of motorways. While the autovias are toll-free, a toll is charged on the autopistas. Partially, both routes even run parallel. In the cities, a parking prohibition is indicated not only by signs but also by a yellow line. In addition, high-visibility vests and two warning triangles must be carried. People who wear glasses must make sure that they have a spare pair with them.
Drivers license:
An international driver’s license is not required in Spain.
Promise limit:
The 0.5 per mille limit applies everywhere in Spain.
Fines:
Drinking and driving: from 300 Euro
Speeding: from 90 Euro
Telephoning without hands-free device: from 90 Euro
Red light: from 90 Euro
Overtaking ban disregarded: from 90 Euro
Parking ban: up to 90 Euro
Similar traffic rules apply as everywhere in Europe. Speed limits are 50 km/h in cities. Outside built-up areas and on expressways may be driven 90 / 110 km/h and on highways 120 km/h. On the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands, slightly modified traffic rules apply in some cases. If dogs are travelling in the car, they must be strapped in and devices with radar alarms are generally prohibited in Spain. You should also make sure that the engine, electronic devices such as radios or mobile phones and vehicle lights are switched off when refuelling.
