Discover Fargo by Hire Car

Fargo is mostly known to Germans from the movie of the same name.
The country is vast and cold, the people behave idiosyncratically. In reality, however, Fargo is different.
The city in the US has just under 100,000 inhabitants, is located in North Dakota and is the largest city in this US state.
On the other side of the Red River of the North is Moorhead, which is already part of Minnesota.
Fargo is currently home to the world’s tallest building, a 629-foot transmission tower for FM and television.
By European standards, the city is still very young; it was founded in 1871 when settlers settled here at the intersection of the Red River and Northern Pacific Railroad. The town was also named after the director of that railroad, William G. Fargo.
In 1893, large areas of the already prosperous town burned down; many renowned architects participated in the reconstruction. Buildings from this period are among the most attractive in the city today.
Many of Fargo’s settlers came from northern Europe, and this is reflected not only in the sister cities but also in the city’s monuments: for example, the Norwegian poets Bj?rnstjerne B?rnson and Henrik Wergeland both have memorial stones, and a statue of Rollo the Viking can also be found in Fargo.
As in all American regions, which tend to be rural, a car is almost essential for getting around, and a hire car is highly recommended.
