Discover Milwaukee by Hire Car

Milwaukee is located in the American state of Wisconsin on the western shore of the mighty Lake Michigan. With a population of just under 600,000 in an area of around 250 square kilometres, it is the largest city in the state.
The name Milwaukee derives from the Algonkin Indians, in whose language it means ‘the good land’.
The city’s appearance is largely due to a 19th-century German influence, when many Democrats emigrated to Milwaukee after the failed Revolution of 1848.
During that time, the population here grew by nearly 80 percent.
After the German fondness for barley juice, it probably comes as little surprise that Milwaukee has become the beer capital of the United States over the years. Numerous large breweries are located there today, leaving little preference for the beverage. However, Milwaukee is also one of America’s jazz capitals, probably due in no small part to the famous musician Al Jarreau, who lives and works there.
With the eleven-day Summerfest, Milwaukee hosts the largest music festival in the world from late June to early July. At the same time, a number of other events take place, of which the “Jazz in the Park” concert is one of the most beautiful. Then Cathedral Square Park is transformed into a miniature landscape ? la Woodstock.
An architectural highlight in Milwaukee is the addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum, completed in 2001 and penned by Spanish star architect Santiago Calatrava. The main attraction of the 120 million euro building is a movable sculpture that resembles a giant bird when open. The futuristic glass pavilion is surrounded by a small park directly on Lake Michigan.
From Milwaukee, the metropolis of Chicago can be reached within two hours by hire car.
