Differences in mentality between Czechs and Germans

Taking a hire car through the golden city of Prague, or through the Czech Republic in general, is an ideal way to get to know this country. The stay in our neighboring country is pleasant. Basically, the mentality of the Czechs is quite similar to that of the Germans. This can be seen not least in the Czechs who live in Germany. They fit in well here and are quickly part of society.

Whoever wants to hire car in a hire car in the Czech Republic – all well-known hire car companies have branches and guarantee the internationally accustomed service as well as all known services and insurance – must usually be at least 21 years old. In addition, it is necessary to have at least one year of driving experience. Of course you should inform yourself about the traffic rules in advance, but these are no obstacle. It might be unusual that you have to drive with lights on at all times, even during the day. Moreover, there is a total prohibition of alcohol. Even 0.1 per mille is too much and will be punished. It is also unusual that in the Czech Republic it is compulsory to carry a set of spare bulbs at all times, even in hire cars, although rental companies will normally ensure that this set is in the vehicle. These regulations already say a lot about the Czech mentality. The Czechs are very precise and orderly. They often also look serious, maybe even worried and often very busy. They are also often rather aloof, at least when they don’t know the other person. There is a certain introversion about them. They do indeed seem as serious as Germans are often said to be. Of course, not all people are the same and there are differences in character. Some also have to thaw out first. It’s no different in Germany. You have to make an effort, show interest, and then you will make contact. At some point the Czechs are open. Besides, this aloofness doesn’t mean that Czech men and women aren’t nice. If you ask for directions, for example, you will get an answer 99 percent of the time and may even be accompanied to your destination.

Czechs have a great sense of humor and a certain charm, but you have to understand it first. They are quite vain and sometimes even unreasonably self-satisfied. Women, especially the young ones, are usually very self-confident and they know how to apply the advantages of their virtues. Czechs, on average, are sociable and like to have a glass of beer together. And then they talk. Only driving a car is not possible afterwards, because of the mentioned rule with the alcohol limit, which you really have to adhere to strictly. In summary, we can say that Czechs love to enjoy their lives and smile while doing so. But they are more likely to do this in a group of friends than in a group of strangers. One prejudice must be mentioned, however. Many Czechs tend not to take the initiative in their lives. They prefer to be led. So sometimes it is necessary to tell a Czech what to do. Which in the case of booking a hire car might be the case if there is a problem. There are no difficulties in this country when it comes to punctuality. In the Czech Republic, people also stick to times and are therefore similar to the German mentality.
