Traffic rules Iceland

General:
Island has a moderately developed road network of about 13,000 kilometres, of which only about 4,000 kilometres are asphalted. Especially when driving into the interior of the country, it is therefore best to use a vehicle with four-wheel drive. Driving off marked roads is prohibited. Danger signs usually indicate something without a speed limit. You have to assess the situation yourself.
Driving license:
An international driving licence is not required. According to the Brussels ruling, even the old pink one is valid.
Promille limit:
The 0.5 blood alcohol limit applies throughout Iceland.
Fines:
Red light: 170 euros
Overtaking despite a ban: from 120 euros
Parking despite a ban: from 15 euros
Making a phone call without a hands-free device: from 35 euros
Driving too fast: from 110 euros
Alcohol at the wheel can be expensive. Fines range from 490 euros to 1,2001 euros.
In terms of fines, Iceland is in the top third in Europe.
Other than that, similar traffic rules apply as they do everywhere else in Europe. Speed limits are 50 km/h in cities, 90 km/h on rural roads and 80 km/h on unpaved country roads. You must also drive with dipped headlights during the day, otherwise you will be fined approximately 62 Euros. Parking is prohibited when there is a broken yellow line at the edge of the road, and stopping is prohibited when there is a solid yellow line.
