Traffic rules Russia

General:
Roads are rather poor in Russia apart from the highways and regional roads in the immediate vicinity of cities. Furthermore, all road signs are in Cyrillic. Every possibility to refuel should be used. While diesel is available almost everywhere, gasoline is not offered everywhere. In addition, fire extinguishers and spare bulbs should be carried. In case of breakdowns or accidents, the police must be notified. Vehicles with flashing lights should always be allowed to overtake.
Drivers License:
An international driver’s license is required.
Promise limit:
The 0.0 blood alcohol limit applies.
Fines:
There is little uniformity for fines and the police are considered corrupt. Normally, no fines higher than Rs 100 crore may be collected immediately. However, if the demand is only marginally higher, one should not argue.
Similar traffic rules apply as everywhere else in Europe. Speed limits are 60 km/h in cities and also 20 km/h in residential areas. Outside built-up areas, the speed limit is 90 km/h, and 100 km/h on expressways and motorways. Lights are compulsory on roads outside built-up areas.
