Traffic Rules Thailand

General:
The road network in Thailand is quite well developed, but many country roads are poorly visible, extremely steep and winding. In cities, a red and white curb means no stopping and a yellow and white one prohibits parking. Warning signs are usually red with black lettering. Thailand has left-hand traffic and overtaking is done from both sides.
Many Thais approach an intersection with hazard lights flashing to indicate they want to go straight. Care should be taken with branches or palm fronds on the road, they often replace warning triangles.
Driving licence:
An international driving licence is advisable in Thailand.
Promise limit:
The 0.0 blood alcohol limit applies.
Fine:
Traffic fines are at the discretion of the police. They vary widely and usually must be paid immediately.
Talking on the phone in a car is only allowed with a proper hands-free device. Breaking this rule can be very expensive.
Similar traffic rules apply as in Europe. Speed limits are 60 km/h in cities. Outside built-up areas, the speed limit is 80 and on expressways 100, and on motorways 120 km/h.
